Some bits about me

I am currently a first-year MA student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Well, theoretically, there's only one year in the program, so "first-year" is really sort of overly pessismistic. I love Madison. Sure, the police will tear-gas you on Halloween, and during the winter they announce on the radio the amount of time you can safely be outside before your ears suffer permanant frostbite damage, but still. It's small and lovely and full of bars and liberals. Much better than my "Bumfuck-nowhere" undergraduate university, full of asshat conservatives with large brains and small hearts. I'm debating whether or not to tell the Alumni association my address and phone number, just so that when they call me for donations, I can explain to them exactly why I'll never give them one fucking cent.

Ahem. I'm better now.

I am an atheist. It's an important part of who I am, as I firmly believe that ideological identification and consistency are pretty much the most important things you can do. I'm not an angry, bitter atheist (er, despite what the preceding paragraph seems to indicate), but most of my quibbles with religion stem from my fixation on inconsistency. I've met way too many "Catholics" who don't think the pope is infallible, support birth control, are pro-Choice, think women should be ordained, etc. Hate to break it to you, man - but you're not a Catholic any more. I don't have a problem with you worshipping whatever god you like as long as you don't bother me none, but at least follow the tenets of whatever church you choose to follow. (Not that I have a thing against Catholics in particular, but they're easy to pick on because their theology is so straightforward - and immovable. Don't worry; I realize that there are many protestants who have way crazier theologies - but they tend to actually believe them, the freaks.)

I am also a feminist, a four-dimensionalist with antirealist leanings, a concretist with respect to possible worlds, and a whole bunch of other stuff that I'll get into when I get the philosophy stuff up and running on here, if ever. On a lighter note, I am a complete and utter movie addict. I'll watch just about anything - even trash can be fun trash - and would love to go to and rent many more movies than my limited finances permit. I compulsively collect and rearrange books and comic books, and am currently living in an apartment with a parrot, a ferret, five fishtanks, and three boys, one of whom lives in a bedroom converted from my walk-in closet. I think that's all I feel the need to say, for now.
